work on the army website is steady for the most part. a few Real Life Stuff setbacks (mainly cat-related) but nothing to disasterous. here, i wanted to use the word "cataclysmic", which i think fits better, but i said i was finished with the cat-related puns so...anyhow! in this vein, if you have any mad agit-art guerrilla promo tactics to suggest, they'll be taken to heart and possibly to the streets. to get the ball rolling, here are some of our old favorites:

1) write your favorite lyrics on scraps of paper, go to the library, find a ton of interesting-looking books, slip the lyrics in at random and reshelve said books. let natural curiosity run its course. (this idea was suggested by sara j of pickering, ontario <3)

2) make a stack of bmad mixtapes and leave them laying around where you think someone might find them. include a note in the case (you do not have to reproduce this word for word, but as a general idea): "this is a tape of music by bonfire madigan! i hope you enjoy it. if you don't, please leave it for someone else to find. for more information, go to bonfiremadigan.com!"

3) two words: sidewalk chalk.

4) rollerskates + portable tape deck = mobile army unit.

5) anything involving photobooths.

on another note entirely, in case you missed it in the shuffle of the last update, according to bmaddotcom, there is going to be a show/EP RELEASE (yes, i did just say what you think i did!) on march 29th at cafe du nord in san francisco. allegedly, you can get tickets on the website, however i can't find any mention of this show in the ticket section or on the event calendar. i'm sure the appropriate updates will be made in the coming months, though.

and finally, heartfelt thanks to [info]storytellerslie and [info]goodnews for their kind offers of lyrical assistance! all y'all are awesome, it's true :)

well, it's a new year and all horizons lay open on endless possibilities! hurrah! in the last few days, you may have noticed small storms a-brewing here at the livejournal bmad army base (look/see); stay tuned for continual reinvention and exciting updates as they unfold into this reality. there is also a gorgeous new website where you can listen to some new/unreleased songs (as well as remastered versions of old favorites) and sign up for the bmad newsletter. madigan has this to say about it:

2009: Divine Divine Divine!

Thanks to Black Day Creative for putting the new site together. Pls have a look around. Make yourself at home. We just confirmed a Birthday Bash gig for BMad in San Francisco on Sun March 29th. Save the date!

Stay tuned and check out inside info all around here on tours, new releases, the repressing of I Bleed, film & theater commissions, writing in publications, remasters of the entire back catalog and more.

Let's be the things we've never seen, that which you are yet to believe, a bonfire on the conspire. Thank you & Welcome!

what are you waiting for?

the army website is also gearing up for a triumphant re-launch, with more information, ideas, and general splendor being added all the time. speaking of which! if anyone with a good ear wants to help me transcribe some lyrics (or...isn't a chumpsicle and didn't lose the cd booklet for saddle the bridge) let me know!

tell your friends!

So Im new to the Bonfire world.  I discovered her whilst reading her essay in Live Through This: On Creativity and Self-Destruction.

I've fallen in love.

This leads me to another lyrics question:

"Running"

anyone? I swear I've googled.

Thanks [info]goodnews for last time and thanks [info]falltotry for the Tattle Tale resource!

Madigan has posted tour dates on her MySpace account, so I thought I'd re-post them here for those of you who aren't on MySpace.

May 3rd, Hemlock Tavern (San Francisco, CA)
May 7th, Bordello (Los Angeles, CA)
May 12th, Mission Theater (Portland, OR)

If you go, be sure to dance & give Madigan a hug for me. I'm in the mid-west, so I'm getting the feeling it'll be awhile before I get to see Madigan again.

Also, for those of you still in need of a copy of ...From the Burnpile, there's one on eBay for less than $5 - here.

dearest bonfire madigan friends & allies,

i am calling on you. in this season of giving. some of you may know that after a day on tour filled with my own neck pains, it all came to a head (?!) when the neck of my cello pulled out of the body in my arms in Bristol UK. it was temporarily fixed by the swell folks at the Bristol String Repair shop but is currently having it's neck re-broke to be set again in the highly capable hands of the great guys at David Gage in NYC.

i have come to terms with the fact that i have barely enough money to bring it (and myself) home. i must also now get my instrument insurance repurchased & updated before anymore touring can happen as well as a better flight case tangled up with dreams of purchasing a divine second cello that i found in Bristol. it's a 19th century French cello. ohhhhh. like butter in the high register. all together i am trying to raise nearly $8,000 to get in tip top shape for a big 2007 year of a new cd finally released and lotsa touring in the works.

If you are in any position to, please consider helping to make this happen.
Any and every dollar you can donate will go directly into the BMad cello fund.
I send you tons of humble thanks with penetrating music & mutual aid for the holidays.

The Icarus Project(www.theicarusproject.net ) is creating a new culture and language that resonates with our actual experiences of "mental illness" rather than trying to fit our lives into a conventional framework.

We are a non-profit community based website, support network, and underground media project created by and for people struggling with bipolar disorder and other dangerous gifts that are commonly labeled as mental illnesses. We believe that when we learn to take care of ourselves, the intertwined threads of madness and creativity can be tools of inspiration and hope in a repressed and damaged world. Our goal is to help people like ourselves feel less alienated, and to allow us both as individuals and as a community to tap into the true potential that lies between brilliance and madness. >>
